GRAMMAR 101

Picture me: flailing on ground and gasping for air with bloody dagger piercing my heart.

I made the Wonder Hub backtrack through the narrow streets of Ocracoke Village so I could take a picture of this sign, which is an official OPS (Ocracoke Preservation Society) posting.

Please, people.  For the sake of our very civilization, for the love of all that is good and holy, understand this: REAL is the opposite of FAKE.

I see that Dictionary.com has forsaken dignity and common sense by adding this:

Real: Informal . very or extremely: You did a real nice job painting the house.

Dictionary.com, you are dead to me!

The rest of you: beware.

  1. Someone realized there was a need for this sign. Then somebody else had to give permission for the funds for this sign. AND then someone had to make this sign! It passed through all those hands without anyone questioning it? Amazing.

  2. they could have used 'really' ONE time, and it would have been just as convincing.

    is it 'really slowly'?

i'm confused now. at least they used capitalization ;)

  3. If you say, "Drive really slow," drive is a flat adverb that describes slow, and is correct. You can also say, "Drive really slowly." Either is correct.
